Mary Ann Cairns,1 daughter of John and Mary McLaughlin, we born April 10, 1855 at Fairfield, Illinois and died at her home in Coulterville, October 24, 1933 being 78 years, 6 months and 14 days of age.  Her father having died early in life, her mother was remarried in 1865 to Samuel Shaw. She was united in marriage to R. J. Cairns (Robert John), June 7, 1889. The husband preceded her in death passing away January 18, 1921. To this union were born three children: Mrs. Nellie Hippard (Mary Ellen Cairns) of Chicago, Lulu who passed away a number of years ago and Walter Cairns of Coulterville.

Mrs. Cairns has resided in vicinity for the greater part of her life. She was a faithful member of the United Presbyterian Church, having joined Covenanter Church when young, later transferring to the United Presbyterian denomination. Her sickness extended through a period of more than six months, during which times she has been confined to her home in Coulterville.

There remain to miss her earthy presence: Mrs. Hippard, Walter Cairns, John Shaw and several grandchildren besides a number of  other relatives and friends.

The funeral services were held in the U.P Church, Thursday afternoon conducted by pastor Rev. F. R. McLean. Interment was made in the Coulterville Cemetery.
