Samuel C. McKee Stricken While in Sparta visiting His Brother and Friends

Come Just Week Before his Death to Attend the Funeral of Mrs. Holmes

The visit to Sparta of Samuel C. McKee, of South Bend, Indiana, which had been brought about by the death of a friend, was ended by his own death Thursday noon of last week. Mr. McKee had come to Sparta just about a week previously to attend the funeral of Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Holmes.

Mr. McKee began to feel ill a few days after the funeral and on the Wednesday of the week before his death, took to his bed, at the home of his brother, Dr. H. T. McKee. He gradually grew worse until death came. He was 56 years old. (Died Feb. 19, 1914)

Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian church Saturday afternoon at two o’clock and was largely attended by old friends of the deceased. A large number of beautiful floral offerings testified to the high esteem in which he was held. Mr. McKee was born at Blair, and lived in this vicinity all his life until five years ago when he removed to South Bend. He was connected with the South Bend Tribune in a business capacity.

Mr. McKee left his wife and a daughter Miss Josephine, and three brothers: Dr. H. T. McKee, Sparta; David of Blair; and Edward of St. Louis, to mourn his loss. The New joins with the wide circle of friends in extending sympathy to the bereaved relatives.
