The Last Will and Testament of William S. Hughes, Box 50
I, William S. Hughes of Randolph County and state of Illinois do hereby make and declare this my last will and testaments in manner and form following to wit. First It is my will that my funeral expenses and all my just debts be fully paid. To my Eldest son James F. Hughes I give and bequeath to him my silver watch the one at Wm. Evans’s. To the second son Isaac Simpson Hughes I give and bequeath to him West half of the north west quarter of section seven (7) T (4) South R (8) eight West of the third principal Meridian containing Eighty Acres more or less. To my Daughter Mary R. Hughes I give to her my bed and bedding that is in the house at this time. Thankful M. Hughes I give to her the bed that is at John Hughes and one side saddle and to Sarah L. Hughes I give to her my bed and bedding which is at Wm. Evans’s. To my youngest daughter Electa Hughes I bequeath her to have Ten Dollars in money the balance of my Real Estate to be divided between my four daughters. The balance of my Personal property after paying my debts to be divided between my four daughters and Isaac S. Hughes.
My watch which is in St. Louis I wish to be given Elizabeth Barker as a token of regard. I Wm. S. Hughes appoint my brother John Hughes as guardian for my children all under the age of fourteen years and I request that they may choose him.
And lastly I hereby constitute and appoint said Henry M. Simmons executix of this my last will and testament revoking and annulling all former wills by me made and notifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament.
In witness whereof I the said Wm. S. Hughes have hereunto set my hand and seal this 26th day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight Hundred and fifty-six.
