This township is actually the west side of Kaskaskia Island.

Dozaville was laid out for William Doza in 1872 on claim 168, 170 and 141. The trading post there was formerly known as Goshen, Kaskaskia Point and New Kaskaskia. Leon E. Delassus ran a general store and sawmill. It had a landing for boats. A flood damaged the village in 1899. The entire village was destroyed in the flood of 1973. A few houses remain, the Church of the Immaculate Conception, founded in 1675 still stands. KING LOUIS XV of France gave the altar and bell to the church.
