William Roberts first settled this township in 1802, just east of the Okaw River. His son Thomas was the JP. In 1805 Alexander Barber moved to the area, as did Andrew McCormack in 1808. Dr. George Fisher first came to Kaskaskia in 1798 before settling in this township in 1806. He was also a sheriff. Dr. Fisher's farm was at the foot of the bluff. Henry Connor came to IL in 1807 before settling here in 1813. Other early settlers were William Hamilton and George Glenn 1817 brought Henry Will.
Flinton is located west of Roots, nothing is known about this tiny hamlet.
Roots were named for John Roots who opened a store there. It is located west of the Kaskaskia River in the old French survey s-356 and c-2115. John Lewis owned the grain elevator and Leonard Van Pelt was the town blacksmith. John Dungy ran a stone quarry. The post office was open from 1902 to 1906 and again from 1915 to 1923, when it closed.
Collins was located east of the Kaskaskia River and NE of Ellis Grove. Nothing further is known about this town.
