The French (see history of RC) first settled this Township in 1722. A common field was granted in 1730 and a church was built in 1734. The owners of this area changed hands several times until it came to the Americans. One of the first American settlers was Thomas Mudd who came from KY in 1818. John N Louver (b in 1802) settled in the Prairie du Rocher area. The Catholic Church of St. Joseph was est. in the township. Frank Brickey est. a flourmill in 1858.

Prairie du Rocher was founded in 1722 by the French.

Modoc is a small hamlet once called Breverville. A Post Office was est. here in 1868. It was located in the very SE corner of the Township.
